Journal Editorial Policies

Peer Review Process

Upon receipt of a manuscript, the editor reviews the manuscript for conformance to required guidelines.  If the manuscript is not compliant with formatting guidelines or is not deemed ready for peer-review, it is returned to the submitting party with the requirement that the manuscript be re-written to be eligible for peer review assignment.   If a manuscript passes the initial editorial review, the editor removes all identifying information from the manuscript and it is assigned to 1-2 editorial board member for manuscript review.  The peer-reviewer will be chosen based upon the subject matter of the manuscript and the educational/ professional background of the reviewer.  For example, if the manuscript focuses primarily upon speech-language pathology subject matter, it will be assigned whenever possible to an individual with a speech-language pathology background.  The reviewer is also provided a formatted review sheet for reviewer feedback and comment, as well as a recommendation for acceptance, rejection or revision.  The peer-reviewers are asked to return the manuscript with comments as well as the reviewer sheet within two weeks of assignment.  When received, the peer reviewer feedback is considered by the editor and is communicated by the editor to the manuscript author. If necessary, subject matter specialists are called upon to review manuscripts.  Because the field of life care planning is made up of individuals from diverse educational backgrounds, we have an editorial board that reflects these same credentials.  However, on occasion we need additional subject matter specialists to review manuscripts and those individuals may be sought out as needed.
