The Dictionary of Occupational Titles has not been updated since 1991. It has been the primary reference for Occupational research, identification of jobs and job titles, and a foundation for the job analysis process. Since 1991, job titles and associated job definitions have become obsolete, have changed for job duties and responsibilities, and has become a questionable reference for forensic experts involved with social security vocational evaluations, personal injury vocational evaluations, and employment law evaluations. With the emergence of the ORS, questions regarding the use of the DOT have been increasing. This presentation reviews the DOT and identifies what can we continue to use and what do we have to reject.

The Federal Rule of Evidence (FRE 702) governs expert testimony in federal court. A witness who is qualified as an expert by knowledge, skill, experience, training or education may testify in the form of an opinion or otherwise if the proponent demonstrates
to the court that it is more likely than not (Concept of reasonable certainty or probability). In California Workers' Compensation litigation, the Vocational Expert must meet rules of evidence for substantial vocational evidence, requiring certain
procedures and documentation consistent with supporting professional opinions. This session will discuss rules of evidence, how to meet those requirements, and how to avoid exclusion of testimony.

The upcoming webinar is designed to provide an in-depth exploration of Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG) and its practical applications for professionals in the field of Vocational Rehabilitation. The session will commence with an overview of RAG,
elucidating its function and defining its scope within artificial intelligence technologies. Following this, the webinar will specifically address how Rehabilitation Counselors and Vocational Evaluators can leverage RAG to enhance their practices,
offering concrete examples and potential strategies for implementation. Furthermore, the discussion will critically examine the ethical considerations surrounding the use of RAG, ensuring that its deployment aligns with the established ethical code
of Certified Rehabilitation Counselors (CRC). This comprehensive approach aims to equip practitioners with the knowledge and tools necessary to effectively integrate RAG into their professional activities, fostering an environment of ethical and innovative
    practice.

A major update to FCE best practice guidelines were adopted by the Academy of Orthopedic Physical Therapy (AOPT) in 2018. A subsequent FCE monograph was published in 2022 by the AOPT as part of an occupational health practitioner certificate program.
These two documents provide the core standards for the design, administration, interpretation, and reporting of FCE results. These documents emphasize the importance of monitoring heart rate changes during an FCE not only for safety, but also as an
indicator of an individual's performance validity and their tolerance to participate in physical activities over a specified duration. FCEs can be designed to not only assess limitations with work abilities, but also limitations with activities of
daily living. The results from an FCE can be very helpful in validating an individual's chronic pain profile, loss of work capacity, impaired tolerance with ADLs, and a loss of enjoyment of life activities.

Join us for a viewing of Dr. Michael Sullivan's high definition training on The Psychology of Pain and Disability, followed by a live Q&A with Dr. Sullivan.

Video Description: Over the past three decades, research has accumulated showing that psychosocial factors play an important role in the onset, severity, expression and recovery from painful health conditions. As a result, biopsychosocial models have evolved to become the dominant explanatory frameworks guiding research on pain and disability. But that hasn’t been the case in practice; traditional biomedical models of pain continue to characterize the treatment of pain in primary care and insurance policy.

Pain-related psychosocial factors are rarely assessed in primary care, and in the case of insurance policy, can be the basis of claim denial. There are real barriers to bringing biopsychosocial models into the management of pain in primary care and insurance policy.

Questions that are not easily answered include:

How and when should pain-related psychosocial factors be assessed?

What types of interventions could be used to target psychosocial risk factors for adverse recovery outcomes?

Are such interventions accessible?

What are the insurance risks of considering pain-related psychosocial factors as legitimate targets of treatment in individuals with debilitating pain conditions.

The challenges of answering these questions will be addressed in this presentation.

Plan accordingly to attend LIVE - this will NOT be recorded.

Learning Objectives:

Participants will become familiar with what is known about psychosocial risk factors for pain and disability.

Participants will become familiar with approaches to the assessment of psychosocial risk factors for prolonged pain and disability.

Participants will become familiar with barriers to the effective management of psychosocial risk factors for pain and disability.
